The Neurophysiology Lab at Vidant Medical Center provides 24-7 inpatient and outpatient services. The scope of services include: Clinical EEG, Evoked Potentials, BAER and VER testing, Long Term Video EEG monitoring and Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring. The staff performs approximately 90 IOM cases per month assisting 9 different surgeons.
The types of cases monitored include: ACDF; PCF; PSF (Thoracic and Lumbar); MVD; Skull-based surgeries; Aneurysm Coiling and Clipping; CEA; Peripheral Nerve Decompression; Kyphoplasty/Vertebroplasty.
All IOM cases performed at Vidant Medical Center include a Neurologist that monitors the case remotely with the technologist.
The equipment used for IOM monitoring is Cadwell Elite; and XLTEK for clinical EEG.
Responsibilities
1. Performs standard and long-term EEG recordings on patients of all ages.
Customizes the recording based on history, clinical indications and observations according to lab policy and procedure.
Provides appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other patient emergency situations.
Summarizes the patient's neurological status and clinical history from the medical record, patient, or others (i.e., family, physician, nurses, etc).
2. Establishes rapport with the patient and/or family members by explaining all testing procedures.
3. Understands fundamentals of EEG; terminology, functional neuroanatomy and physiology, medication effects on the EEG; clinical correlations and instrumentation.
Requirements
Associate degree in a Neurodiagnostics program or allied health program required.
Two (2) years of experience in EEG or PSG may substitute for the required education.
Board eligible required.
